1988-2001
1988 - 2001
In 1988, Masonite was purchased by International Paper.
This move played a major role in the history of Masonite, providing access to
the considerable financial resources, corporate strength and support that comes
from being part of one of the world's largest global timber and paper companies.
In 2001, Masonite was purchased by Premdor.
Premdor completed the purchase of Masonite Corporation from International Paper
on 31st August 2001. Following this acquisition, the parent company has been renamed
Masonite International Corporation - reflecting the world recognition of the Masonite
brand.
Premdor is a public company incorporated in Canada. With over 60 manufacturing
and distribution facilities globally and 9,000 employees, Masonite International
manufactures and sells its products to the largest door manufacturers, distributors,
builders, renovators, DIY superstore chains, wholesale and retail building supply
dealers across North America, South America, Europe and Asia.
As an integrated global building products company, Premdor has been acknowledged,
for more than 40 years, as one of the world's most respected and trusted marketers,
merchandisers and manufacturers within the industry. Specific focus and expertise
is dedicated to doors, door components and entry systems.
The Masonite Division will continue to manufacture door components and fibreboard
at 6 locations across the world. Masonite itself now employs over 4,500 people
worldwide and remains one of the world's largest producers of door facings.
As part of corporate restructuring to focus more closely on our core product
range, Masonite Europe is no longer involved in the sale and servicing of Korlite
and hardboard which is now conducted through our Masonite Africa division.
